SYMPTOMS
When you apply a Client Add Pack to BackOffice Small Business Server version 4.5, the server may restart twice and complete Setup without adding the appropriate licenses.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because Client Add Pack Setup requires that the Administrator and System accounts have full control access to the Setup key in the registry and the Temp folder (as designated by the TEMP environment variable).
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this behavior:
- Verify the permissions on the Setup key in the registry:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- Type: regedt32.exe, and then press ENTER.
- Locate and click the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Setup - On the Security menu, click Permissions, and then verify that the permissions are:
Administrators, Creator Owner, System = Full Control
Everyone = Read
- Verify the permissions in the Temp folder:
- At a command prompt, type: set to identify the Temp folder.
- Locate this folder and verify the following permissions:
Administrators, Creator Owner, System = Full Control
Everyone, Server Operators = Change
MORE INFORMATION
To add Client Access Licenses to BackOffice Small Business Server you must insert the Client Add Pack into the floppy disk drive, and then run the Setup.exe program. When Setup initializes, you are prompted to agree to the End-User License Agreement (EULA). Then, remove the Client Add Pack disk and restart the server. After the first restart, you are prompted to insert the disk again.
