256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry

SUMMARY

This article describes how to use the Microsoft Custom Installation Wizard (CIW) to configure a custom installation to automatically import Microsoft Schedule+ 7.x data to the Outlook 2000 Calendar. When you use this method, only Schedule+ 7.x data that is located in a Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox is imported.

MORE INFORMATION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

If you are an administrator, you can use the CIW to add custom registry entries to the Windows registry during the installation process. If a user's Schedule+ 7.x Calendar information is stored on an Exchange Server computer, set the following registry key and value on the Add/Modify Registry Entry dialog box on page ten of the CIW to migrate the data to Outlook 2000:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Import

Value Name: ImportDetection
Value Type: DWORD
Value Data: 1 (When you set this value, the user is prompted to import Schedule+ information.)
Value Data: 2 (When you set this value, the user is not prompted to import Schedule+ information.)

During the installation process, this entry is added to the registry on the user's computer. When you run Outlook 2000 for the first time, the following process occurs:
  1. Outlook detects whether any Schedule+ data exists for the Exchange Server user's mailbox. If no Schedule+ data is detected, no further action is taken.

If Schedule+ data is detected, either the user is prompted to convert the data, or the data conversion process automatically starts, depending on the ImportDetection value. At this point, a copy of the user's Schedule+ data is copied to the Schedimp0.scd file in the user's local Temp folder.
  2. The Schedimp0.scd file is imported to the user's Outlook mailbox. During this process, the user's Schedule+ contacts, appointments, and tasks are imported into the appropriate Outlook Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks folders. The user sees a status indicator during this stage of the import.

NOTE: Schedule+ permissions are not migrated. The user must manually configure the permissions on the Calendar folder to allow others access. By default, the Calendar folder has no permissions.
  3. After the Schedule+ data has been imported, the ImportDetection key is deleted from the registry, and the .scd file remains in the Temp folder. This file is useful for recovery if an issue occurs during the import process.
  4. After the user verifies that the data is imported correctly, the user can run Outlook with the /CleanSchedPlus parameter to permanently delete the Schedule+ data in the mailbox.

Troubleshooting Import Problems

If issues occur when you use the automatic process to import Schedule+ data, use the following troubleshooting method:
  1. Verify that the ImportDetection value exists in the registry key that is specified in the preceding section. If this value does not exist, confirm the value that was entered in the CIW when the install point was created.
  2. Verify that the following registry values do not exist. If they do, delete them, and then restart Outlook:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Setup

    Value Name: First-Run
    Value Name: ImportSPlus

  3. Verify that Schedule+ data exists on the user's Exchange Server mailbox.
