This article was previously published under Q298580 SYMPTOMS
After you install Microsoft Office 2000 and have chosen to install all of the graphics filters, you may not see the following filters in the Save as type list in Microsoft Paint:
- JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg,*.jpeg)
- Graphics Interchange Format (*.gif)
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you have not yet opened any files of these types in Microsoft Paint. Microsoft Paint does not include any native filters for JPEG or GIF files. Office installs filters for JPEG and GIF files, but the filters are not installed in Microsoft Paint until Paint actually opens a JPEG or GIF file.
RESOLUTION
To add these two filters to the Paint Save as type list, follow these steps. NOTE: If all of the filters are already installed, proceed to step 8.
- Click Start, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click Microsoft Office 2000, and then click Add/Remove.
- Click Add or Remove Features.
- In the Microsoft Office 2000: Update Features dialog box, click the plus sign (+) next to Converters and Filters.
- Click the list next to Graphics Filters, and then click to select the Run all from My Computer check box.
- Click Update Now.
- Start Microsoft Paint.
- On the File menu, click Open.
- In the Files of type box, click All Files.
- Browse to any GIF or JPEG image, and then click Open.
The GIF and JPEG filters are now installed in Microsoft Paint.
