PRB: Error "Service Failed to Start" When You Reboot After You Uninstall Commerce Server SP1 (298550)

SYMPTOMS

After you uninstall Commerce Server 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you may receive the following error message every time you restart the computer:
The service failed to start
The following event is logged in the System Event Log:
Event ID: 7022
Type: Error
Source: Service Control Manager
Description: The Commerce Server Predictor service hung on starting.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if Commerce Server uses the Local Administrator identity during the Commerce Server initial setup.

RESOLUTION

If Commerce Server 2000 SP1 is not removed, follow these steps:
  1. Change all Commerce Server services logon accounts to a Domain account.
  2. Uninstall Commerce Server 2000 SP1.
  3. Change the Commerce Server services logon accounts to a Local Administrator, if necessary.
If Commerce Server 2000 SP1 is already removed, follow these steps:
  1. Change all Commerce Server services logon accounts to a Domain account.
  2. Restart the computer. This corrects the problem, and you should no longer receive the above-mentioned error message when you restart the computer.
  3. Change the Commerce Server services logon accounts to a Local Administrator, if necessary.
