PRB: Business Desk Fails to Start and Event ID 4101 Occurs When You Install Commerce Server 2000 SP1 (298546)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Commerce Server 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1), the Business Desk may fail to start. The following error message occurs in the Application event log when you install SP1:
Event id: 4101 Source: Commerce Server 2000
Commerce Server: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access is denied.

CAUSE

SQL Server services must be running when you install Commerce Server 2000 SP1.

RESOLUTION

  1. Uninstall SP1 from Add/Remove Programs, and then restart your computer.
  2. Verify that SQL Server services are started.
  3. Reinstall SP1.
