SUMMARY

This article explains how to configure e-mail notification of events and alerts in Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM).

MORE INFORMATION

To configure event and alert notification:
  1. Create a dedicated Microsoft Exchange or Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) e-mail account for the Consolidator service account to use. The Consolidator service account is the domain account that is used to start the OnePoint service on the Database Consolidator Agent Manager (DCAM).
  2. Install the Microsoft Outlook 98 (or later) e-mail client on the Database Consolidator Agent Manager (DCAM) computer. Create a profile on the DCAM and configure it for the e-mail account that you created in step 1.

NOTE: If you configure the e-mail account to save sent messages, you must occasionally delete old sent messages. Store the mailbox on the e-mail server so that the mailbox is accessible from all central computers.
  3. Add Operators to either the predefined Notification groups or to your own custom Notification groups. You can find the steps for creating Notification groups and adding Operators to these groups in the Installation Guide and in the Help files under the MOM Administrator Console.
  4. Add Notification as a response to the predefined or customized rules in the Processing Rule groups that are available to you under the Rules node of the Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
