The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q298477

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Internet Explorer to view the Web-based Event Monitor in Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM), you may encounter any of the following behaviors:
  • The browser may be reported as unknown.
  • The Internet Explorer browser may be incorrectly identified as a Netscape browser or vice versa.
  • Properties of the browser, including the version number, may be misidentified.

CAUSE

These issues can occur if your browser (for example, Internet Explorer version 6) is a later version than the browsers that are identified and configured in the BrowsCap.ini file on the Internet Information Services (IIS) server.

If the BrowsCap.ini file has no entry for a browser because the browser was released after installation of the BrowsCap.ini file, the browser may be undetected or incorrectly identified, and Web pages that depend on browser detection may not be viewable.

RESOLUTION

To resolve these issues for Internet Explorer 6, click the following link to download the latest version of the BrowsCap.ini file from the cyScape Web site: After you download the new BrowsCap.ini file, update the existing version:
  1. Stop the World Wide Web Publishing Service on the IIS server.
  2. Copy the existing BrowsCap.ini file to a backup directory. The file is located at %WinDir%\System32\Inetsrv\BrowsCap.ini.
  3. Copy the new BrowsCap.ini file to the %WinDir%\System32\Inetsrv\BrowsCap.ini directory to overwrite the existing file.
  4. Restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service.
