"You Do Not Have Permissions" Error Message Appears When You Open the Administrative Console (298468)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Operations Manager 2000
This article was previously published under Q298468 SYMPTOMS
When you open the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) Administrator console (Microsoft Management Console snap-in), you may receive an error message similar to the following information:
Failed to connect to the database on momserver.
You do not have appropriate access permissions to perform this operation. Please contact your system administrator for more information.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you log on and then try to use the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in but you are not a member of the OnePointOp Users group.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, contact your administrator to obtain proper group membership.
If you are logged on to the account when the administrator adds the account to a group (in this case, the OnePointOp User group), you must log off and then log on again to make the group membership take effect.
MORE INFORMATION
MOM provides an interface that is based on MMC technology. The MMC interface is the central monitoring and configuration point for configuration groups. Your user account must be a member of the Windows NT user group OnePointOp Users in order for you to gain access to the MMC interface. Some tasks within the MMC interface require your user account to be a member of the Operations Manager Operators (OnePointOp Operators) group or the Operations Manager Configuration Administrators (OnePointOp ConfgAdms) group.
For more information about the group membership that is required for particular tasks, refer to the MOM Help files. For more information about MOM groups, refer to "Populating the Microsoft Operations Manager Groups" in the Installation Guide.
