SYMPTOMS

When you install the Workflow Services for SQL Server, if you associate either the MSSQLServer or the SQLServerAgent services for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with the localsystem account rather than with a domain account, you will not be able to install Workflow Services for SQL Server. On the Options page of Microsoft Office XP Developer Setup, you cannot click to select the Workflow Services for SQL Server check box and a red X appears next to Workflow Services for SQL Server. In addition, the Feature Description window displays the following message (scroll down to see the entire message)
The following applications, service packs, or features are prerequisites for installing Microsoft Office Developer, but were not found. Once all requirements are met, please restart Microsoft Office Developer setup. For more information about prerequisites, see the readme.htm.

Missing Features:

SQL Server 7.0 SP2 or later

RESOLUTION

Quit Setup and change the MSSQLServer and SQLServerAgent services to use a domain user name. Then, restart Setup. When you restart Setup, you can click to select the Workflow Services for SQL Server check box.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. On a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computer, install Microsoft Windows 2000 SP1, Microsoft Office XP, and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard. During SQL Server 2000 installation, install SQL Server 2000 to the local computer. Use Windows Authentication, and choose localsystem for the MSSQLServer and SQLServerAgent services rather than specifying a domain user name for these services.
  2. Configure FrontPage Server Extensions.
  3. Begin Microsoft Office XP Developer Setup, installing Windows Component Updates as needed.
  4. After you apply the necessary Windows Component Updates, you will see the Start page. On the Start page, accept the license agreement, enter your user name, and supply your product identification number. Click Continue.
  5. On the Options page, try to select the Workflow Services for SQL Server check box. Note that you cannot click to select this box and that a red X appears next to Workflow Services for SQL Server. In addition, the Feature Description window displays the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
