OL2000: The 'Get a Digital ID' Button Includes the Name and E-mail Address in the Generated URL (298364)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook 2000
- Microsoft Outlook 2000, Service Release 1 (SR-1)
This article was previously published under Q298364 SYMPTOMS When you use the Get a Digital ID button in the Security Options dialog box, a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that includes your
name and e-mail address is generated and passed to Microsoft Internet Explorer.
CAUSE This behavior is by design to allow previous versions of
Microsoft Outlook to interact with the Verisign digital ID center to automate
the retrieval of a digital ID. Because virus writers sometimes exploit URLs to
obtain e-mail information, Microsoft has decided to remove the name and e-mail
information from the URL. RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, obtain the latest
service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the

STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in
