After you upgrade to Windows XP on your Sony Vaio Picturebook PCG-C1VN portable computer, the desktop display may appear to be cropped. Some dialog boxes may not be displayed, or a dialog box may be displayed as being partially off the edge of the screen.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because Windows XP supports a minimum of 600 lines of vertical resolution for all video adapters. However, the Sony Vaio Picturebook PCG-C1VN supports a maximum of 480 lines of vertical resolution.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, obtain a new video device driver from Sony Corporation.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, set the desktop area to 640 x 480 pixels:
- Right-click the Desktop, click Properties, and then click the Settings tab.
- Click Advanced, and the click the Monitor tab.
- Click to clear the Hide modes that this monitor cannot display check box.
- Click the Adapter tab, and then click List All Modes.
- Scroll to desired resolution and color depth, click OK, and then click Apply.
Click OK, and then click OK again.
Note that your monitor and video adapter determine whether you can change your screen resolution. After you change the desktop area, click Test to determine whether the monitor supports the selected resolution.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
