SYMPTOMS

The Windows Media Encoder does not automatically select between 12-bit and 16-bit Digital Video (DV) audio.

RESOLUTION

When you set up an encoding session, click the Advanced tab to select between 12-bit and 16-bit audio.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows Media Encoder version 7.1.

MORE INFORMATION

The Encoder does not maintain the 12-bit or 16-bit settings when you reload a saved session. When you reload a saved session, the Encoder automatically selects 16-bit audio. If 12-bit audio is being used, you must click the Advanced tab and select the proper setting.
