You Cannot Read the Windows 2000 SP2 Deploy.doc File in WordPad (298180)

SYMPTOMS

You may not be able to read the Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack Installation and Deployment Guide (Spdeploy.doc) that is included with Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) with the version of WordPad that is included with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Windows 2000 Service Pack Installation and Deployment Guide that is included with Windows 2000 SP2 is not in a format that is compatible with the version of WordPad that is included with Windows NT 4.0.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, open the Spdeploy.doc file with Microsoft Word or with WordPad on a computer that is running Windows 2000 or later.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
