The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server
This article was previously published under Q298170 SYMPTOMS
When you browse a mailbox item by using Outlook Mobile Access against a Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 computer by means of the Mobile Information Server Exchange Server 5.5 Data Provider service (OMA55), you may receive the following error message:
The server rejected one or more recipient addresses.
CAUSE
This problem can occur if the item that you are attempting to open contains backslash characters (\) in the From box, for example:
This situation can occur if the message is sent by a user who is using either Microsoft Outlook 2000 or Microsoft Outlook 2002 that is running in Internet mode and that is connected to an Exchange 2000 computer by using Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) or Internet Message Access Protocol 4 (IMAP4) and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). When Outlook runs in this mode, and the user sends the message in Microsoft Rich Text Format (RTF), and not in the default format, which is Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), to a user on an Exchange Server 5.5 computer, backslash characters occur in the address of the message.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, ensure that either the Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2002 client is using the default HTML setting when you are sending messages to users who read them by using OMA55.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
