The Date Format on the Calendar May Be Displayed Incorrectly as MM/DD Instead of DD/MM on a Non-U.S. English Locale (298050)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server

This article was previously published under Q298050

SYMPTOMS

When you view your calendar by means of Outlook Mobile Access that is set to a locale other than United States English, such as, United Kingdom English, the date that is displayed may be in a month/day (MM/DD) format, instead of a day/month (DD/MM) format, as specified by the locale.

Even though the locale is set up correctly in user preferences, the calendar may be displayed incorrectly in a MM/DD format.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because the locale has not been established on the console of the server that is running Mobile Information Server.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, log on to the Mobile Information Server and set the locale that you want the users to use when they view their calendars with Outlook Mobile Access:
  1. In Mobile Information Server, click Start, click Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Regional Options.
  2. In the Main tab, ensure that your locale is set correctly.
  3. On the Date tab, verify that "dd/MM/yyyy" is listed in the Short date format box.
  4. Verify that "dd MMMM yyyy" is listed in the Long date format box.
  5. Click OK to save the settings, and then click OK.
  6. Log off from the console, and then log on to the console.
  7. Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
  8. Expand Services and Applications, and then click Services.
  9. Right-click IIS Admin Service, and then click Restart.
  10. When you are prompted to restart the dependant services, click Yes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Mobile Information Server does not override whatever the local locale setting is on the server. Instead, Mobile Information Server reads the last known locale that had been used to format the dates in the calendar. If the locale had been changed in user preferences for that particular user, and nobody logged on to the console of the server with that locale setting, the date format can still be incorrect.

When Windows 2000 is initially set up, it takes the default locale that it had been set up with and applies that to the console and Mobile Information Server. Even if the locale is changed in user preferences, Outlook Mobile Access still displays the incorrect localized date format, until the administrator changes the locale on the server and logs on to the console with the correct locale settings.

If the server had been originally set up with the correct locale, the date format is properly displayed in the Outlook Mobile Access calendar.
