NetMeeting Setup May Not Apply Registry Settings (298001)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft NetMeeting 3.01 for Windows 95
  • Microsoft NetMeeting 3.01 for Windows 98 Second Edition
  • Microsoft NetMeeting 3.01 for Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q298001

SYMPTOMS

When you install NetMeeting by using a custom Nm3c.exe package that was created by using the Microsoft NetMeeting Resource Kit Wizard, the appropriate registry settings may not be applied.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Setupx.dll detects a problem in the .inf file and stops processing the file.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the continuation characters (\), or ensure that characters that follow any continuation character are on the next line.

MORE INFORMATION

Setupx.dll stops processing the .inf file if there is a continuation character with all of the characters on one line (instead of the characters that follow the continuation character being on the next line). For example, the following sample file demonstrates the problem:

HKLM,"%KEY_CONFERENCING%\CaptureDevices\QuickCam video capture driver","bmi4bitColors",1,00,00,00,00,ff,ff,\ ff,00

The corrected file looks like this:

HKLM,"%KEY_CONFERENCING%\CaptureDevices\QuickCam video capture driver","bmi4bitColors",1,00,00,00,00,ff,ff,\
ff,00

Note that the issue that is described in this article does not occur in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 because the Setup code works differently in Windows NT 4.0.
