The NetPlacesWizardDoModal() Function Does Not Work If the Calling Thread Has Already Initialized the COM Library (297967)

SYMPTOMS

The WNetConnectionDialog function may not open a browsing dialog box for connecting to network resources.

CAUSE

The NetPlacesWizardDoModal function initializes COM. OleInit does not succeed if COM is already initialized for a different thread model. Instead of ignoring this condition, the function stops the operation.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.

The WNetConnectionDialog function does not open a browsing dialog box for connecting to network resources after a call to the CoInitializeEx function with the COINIT_MULTITHREADED option. The function does not work as intended.
