Computer Account Is Added to the Message Processor Group When You Use the Domainprep Switch (297956)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server

This article was previously published under Q297956

SYMPTOMS

When you run Microsoft Mobile Information Server Setup on a server and you use the /vdomainprep=1 switch, the local server's computer account may be added to the Message Processors group for that domain.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the server is a domain controller in the domain or if the server is another member server that is not installed in Mobile Information Server. This problem is a side effect of how Setup works and does not affect the typical operation of the Message Processor.

NOTE: You do not have to add the computer account to the Message Processors group for Mobile Information Server to function properly.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, remove the computer account from the Message Processors group:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.
  2. Click the Users container, right-click the Message Processors group, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Members tab, and then click the computer account of the server that you used the /vdomainprep=1 switch with.
  4. Click Remove, click Yes, click Apply, and then click OK.
  5. Quit the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
