SYMPTOMS

When you use the Arnold Palmer Course Design program in Microsoft Links, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Access violation, unknown or outside the current module.

-or-

Apcd has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL. Apcd will now close.

-or-

EXCEPTION TYPE::ACCESS VIOLATION

-or-

Error : Access Violation Crash Log APCD.
The following error message is received on computers with Microsoft Windows XP and an Intel 82810 chipset installed:
dderr_invalid pixel format

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if your computer is using either of the following video chipsets:

  • ATI Rage Mobility
  • Trident Cyberblade i7(47)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps to turn off DirectDraw acceleration:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
  3. On the Display tab, click the Disable button next to DirectDraw Acceleration: Enabled.
  4. Click OK, and then click Exit. Once DirectDraw has been disabled, the Arnold Palmer Course Designer will use Windows assisted DirectDraw functionality. This could cause games which require hardware DirectDraw and Direct3D functionality to fail. It is recommended that you use the steps listed above to restore DirectDraw functionality before attempting to play Links 2001 or other games.
