SYMPTOMS

You can insert files to a Contact item in Microsoft Outlook. You may open, edit, close the attached file, and then save the file. When you do this, the file may be saved to the Temporary Internet Files folder location.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because a relationship between the original file and the attached file is not maintained.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, click Save As on the File menu to save the file to another folder on your hard disk. If you want to overwrite the original file, save the file to the same location as the original file and use the same name.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

A new instance of the inserted file is made and kept in the Temporary Internet Files folder location. When you make changes to the file, they are saved to this location unless otherwise specified.
