The CD-ROM Drive May Not Be Accessible During Setup on Computers That Have DirectCD Installed (297837)

SYMPTOMS

When Adaptec DirectCD is installed on a Windows-based computer and DirectCD has locked the CD-ROM drive, and then you upgrade the operating system to Windows XP, the CD-ROM drive may remain locked (inaccessible) during Setup until Setup is finished.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when DirectCD locks the CD-ROM drive to prevent access to it by users or other programs.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, unlock the drive in DirectCD before you upgrade the operating system to Windows XP.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior can cause a problem with Setup if the drive letters change after the computer is restarted, or if the CD-ROM drive is needed to obtain other drivers that are located on a CD-ROM.
