PRB: Installing Visio 2000 Can Break Visual InterDev 6.0 Context-Sensitive Help (297831)

SYMPTOMS

Context-sensitive Help (F1) does not work in Visual InterDev 6.0 after you have installed Microsoft Visio 2000.

CAUSE

This occurs after Visio 2000 installs a Help command on the Toolbar in Visual InterDev 6.0.

RESOLUTION

Follow these steps to resolve this problem:
  1. In Visual InterDev 6.0, from the Tools menu, click Add-in Manager.
  2. Clear all of the Load Behavior checkboxes for the Visio 2000 toolbar.
  3. Close Visual InterDev 6.0.
  4. Search for and delete all instances of "Cmdui.prf".
  5. Restart Visual InterDev 6.0. Context-sensitive Help should now be working.
NOTES:
  • After doing this you will no longer have the Visio 2000 toolbar in Visual InterDev 6.0.
  • Reinstalling Visio 2000 may break the Help system again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in Microsoft Visual InterDev, version 6.0.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Right-click the Visual InterDev toolbar and then click customize.
  2. Go to the Commands tab and select Help from the categories list.
  3. Drag F1 Help from the Commands section onto the toolbar. You should experience the behavior described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
