SYMPTOMS

When you play a MIDI or MID file, visualizations do not work. If you try to view visualizations in a full-screen view, the display may freeze, and you may have to press ESC to return to the desktop.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the visualization architecture cannot function with MIDI audio because of the way MIDI is rendered.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
