FIX: COM+ Dispenser Manager Enlists New Connection When Free Connection Already Exists (297696)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft COM+ 1.0

This article was previously published under Q297696

SYMPTOMS

When a connection needs to be allocated during a transaction, the Dispenser Manager always searches the list of free connections. As a result, the Dispenser Manager may enlist a new connection in the transaction even if free connections are already enlisted in that transaction.

This has two side effects:
  • It appears that connection pooling does not work with Microsoft Transaction Server or COM+ because new connections are opened and enlisted in the transaction.
  • Databases such as Oracle and DB2 may encounter enlistment failures.
