Search Fails Boolean OR Queries If Either Parameter Is Noise (297484)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0
  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0 Commerce Edition

This article was previously published under Q297484

SYMPTOMS

When you explicitly select a Boolean search query from a browser, with the words "AND" or "OR" specified, the search may return no results. A response indicates that only ignored (noise) words are present.

CAUSE

The search engine fails to return results if a Boolean OR query includes noise for one of the parameters in the search criteria. When noise words are specified in a statement with the AND operator, the search engine fails to return results because of the design for Site Server 3.0 search.
