The IrDA COM Port Number May Be Assigned to a USB Modem (297482)

When you plug in a Universal Serial Bus (USB) modem, the modem may be assigned the COM port number that is already assigned to the IrDA port.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because the Ccport.sys driver, when it tries to locate free ports, does not search for ports on infrared devices.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem does not occur in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me).
