The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional

This article was previously published under Q297415

SYMPTOMS

When you right-click the icon for a local area network (LAN) or a high-speed Internet connection (such as a DSL), the Repair command may be unavailable.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because your user account does not have the necessary permissions to access the Repair Connection feature.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior in Windows XP Home Edition, log on with a Computer Administrator account. To determine the type of account with which you logged on, open Control Panel, and then open the User Accounts tool. If your user account is a Limited account or a Standard account, you cannot use the repair option. Log off and then back on with a Computer Administrator account.

In all other versions of Windows XP, you must be a member of the Administrators or Network Configuration Operators group to use the Repair Connection feature.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
