Input Method Editor is disabled when composing new messages in Outlook Web Access (297365)

SYMPTOMS

When you are using Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) and you open a new message window, Input Method Editor (IME) may be disabled for the To, Cc, Bcc, and Subject message header boxes.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you are using Internet Explorer version 5.5 or later on Asian localized versions of Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition. This problem has been verified to occur with the Korean localized version of Windows 98 Second Edition.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, click in the message body in the new message window, and then click the header boxes in which you want to type Asian characters.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
