INFO: Application Connector: Establishing Connections to Exchange Folders in Remote Domains (297291)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q297291

SUMMARY

The Application Connector connects a Lotus Notes database to an Exchange 2000 Folder. When the Application Connector makes a connection to the Exchange 2000 Server, the credentials of the logged-in Application Connector user are used to read and write content in the Exchange 2000 folder. This causes a problem when the Application Connector computer is in a different domain from the Exchange 2000 server.

This article describes how to work around this problem.

MORE INFORMATION

To work around this problem, you can define a user name and password in the ca_nx.ini file, located in the Application Connector program files directory. The user name and password are written in plain text, and are transmitted on wire in unencrypted, plain text. Microsoft recommends enabling Secure Socket Layers (SSL) on the virtual application Web folder when using a Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) connection in this configuration.

To add the user name and password, add the following lines to the ca_nx.ini file:
[user]
name=<domain>\<username>
password=<password>
