FIX: A remote Cut and Paste of a SQL Server 7.0 cube or dimension in Analysis Manager causes an error (297205)

SYMPTOMS

Attempts to perform a Copy or Paste operation or to create a new object by using the Cube/Dimension Editor may cause the following error message to occur:
Arguments are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another
This behavior occurs when you remotely administer an OLAP 7.0 server, from an Analysis Manager workstation, after you migrate the OLAP 7.0 repository to SQL Server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (the Analysis Services Components - Sql2kasp1.exe). For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services version 8.0. This problem was first corrected in the Analysis Services Components of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Set up a SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services 8.0 server and an OLAP 7.0 server.
  2. Migrate the repository on the OLAP 7.0 server to the SQL Server server.
  3. In Analysis Manager for SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services 8.0, register the OLAP 7.0 server.
  4. Open the Foodmart database of the OLAP 7.0 server in Analysis Manager, copy the Sales cube, and then paste it back to Foodmart as Sales2.
