FIX: Snapshot Agent Error Occurs While Adding Table with a Space in it's Name to an Existing Merge Publication (297156)

SYMPTOMS

If you run the Replication Snapshot Agent after you add a new article to an existing merge publication, the process may fail and this error message occurs:

Line 1: Incorrect syntax near '...'.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

Drop, and then re-create the merge publication and include the new article in the list of articles for the publication.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.

MORE INFORMATION

The error message occurs if the table that is added to an existing merge publication has a space in it's name. For example, if there is a merge publication defined on the Northwind database with just the Employees table, if the Order Details table is added to the publication, when you run the snapshot agent to generate the new snapshot this error message may occur:

Line 1: Incorrect syntax near 'Details'.

This problem does not occur on Snapshot or Transactional publications. Also, if the table is included as part of a new merge publication the error does not occur.
