  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000
  • Microsoft FrontPage 2002

This article was previously published under Q297135

SYMPTOMS

Some features in the versions of Microsoft FrontPage listed at the beginning of this article are unavailable when authoring on the Microsoft bCentral Web Site.

CAUSE

Microsoft bCentral uses Web server configurations that prevent some of the features of Microsoft FrontPage from functioning.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft bCentral allows you to author or modify a Web site by using either FrontPage or a program called Microsoft Site Manager. Some features that are unavailable when you use FrontPage may be available in Site Manager and vice versa.

Following is an explanation of some of the features that are implemented in one tool but not the other, or that are not implemented at all. For a more inclusive list, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  • Applying Headers and Footers
The current version of Site Manager does not support this feature. However, you can add a navigation bar by using FrontPage.
  • Checking Spelling and Searching Text
FrontPage does not read the Site Manager components (called Web bots) that Site Manager uses to store and render data on a page. In FrontPage, you can see the text in a normal editing pane, but you cannot check the spelling of or search text entered in Site Manager.
  • Working with FrontPage Forms
The current platform of Site Manager consists of authoring servers as well as rendering or hosting servers. This platform promotes both a more efficient and a more secure hosting environment. However, because the rendering servers do not have access to the authoring servers, they cannot use forms to post data for the site owners to access nor can they e-mail form results.
  • Listing Multiple Products on Product Pages
The current version of Site Manager only supports product pages containing a single product. All product page edits and modifications should be made by using Site Manager.

NOTE: If you use FrontPage to edit these pages, do not remove the Site Manager components. If you do, Cart Services will not work correctly.
  • Accessing the Shopping Cart
You cannot access the shopping cart with FrontPage. Use Site Manager to make modifications to your shopping cart.
