Event ID 3 Occurs When You Use Outlook Mobile Access to Access Your Exchange 2000 Mailbox (297022)

SYMPTOMS

When a user uses Outlook Mobile Access to access their Microsoft Exchange 2000 mailbox, the following event ID message may be logged in the Application event log:

Description:
While processing a request for user user1-W, the authentication module encountered the following error: There is no such object on the server.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you are using auxiliary wireless accounts and an error occurred when you provisioned the user.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Start the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in.
  2. Open the user's properties, click the Wireless Mobility tab, click to clear the Enable wireless access for this user check box, and then click Apply.
  3. Click the Enable wireless access for this user check box, click Apply, and then type a password for the wireless account.

WARNING: If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, or both. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if you incorrectly modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved. Modify these attributes at your own risk.

To verify that you are experiencing this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Run Ldp.exe from the Support\Reskit\Netmgmt\Dstool folder on the retail Windows 2000 CD-ROM if the Support Tools are not installed on your computer.

    If the Support Tools are installed on your computer, open a command prompt and type LDP.
  2. On the Connection menu, click Connect.
  3. Type the server name, verify that the port setting is set to the correct LDAP port, click to clear the Connectionless check box, and then click OK.
  4. On the Connection menu, click Bind, and then type the user name and password.
  5. If the binding is successful, you receive a message in the right pane that is similar to the following message:

    Authenticated as dn:YourUserID

  6. On the View menu, click Tree.
  7. In the left pane, click to expand your domain name, double-click the Users container, double-click the primary account user (user1), and then check to see if the following attribute is populated:
