This article describes how to change the order of the address books that are listed in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 or Microsoft Outlook 2002 when you click To in a message.

When you click To in a message, the Global Address List appears first, then the personal address book, and finally the contacts. If you create a new profile and add the Personal Address Book and Outlook Address Book services before you add the Exchange service, these address books are listed in the following order:

Personal address book
Outlook Address Book
Global Address List

To change the order of the list of address books, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Address Book.
  2. On the Tools menu of the address book, click Options.
  3. Under When sending mail, check names using these address lists in the following order, click the address book name that you want to appear first, and then click the up-arrow to move that address book name to the top of the list.
  4. Click OK.
