OFF2000: "SP-2" Does Not Appear in the "About" Dialog Box After Installing SP-2 Update (296807)

SYMPTOMS

After you install the Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP-2) Update and click About program name on the Help menu of an Office program, you do not see "SP-2" listed as part of the version information. You instead see "SR-1."

Also when you look in the list of installed programs in the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel, you see the following

Microsoft Office 2000 edition SR-1

where edition is the edition of Office that is installed.

CAUSE

The text "SP-2" is not displayed in the About program name dialog box, because Office 2000 SP-2 is not a major release of Office 2000. Office 2000 SP-2 is a service pack of Office 2000. Therefore, only the version number changes.

RESOLUTION

To verify that the installation of the Office 2000 SP-2 Update was successful, view the build of the version number that is displayed in the About program name dialog box in any of the Office programs. To do this, click About program name on the Help menu in any of the Office programs.
