OL2002: Addresses Do Not Resolve Against the Offline Address Book (296798)

SYMPTOMS

If you create a new message and type the name of the recipient in the To field, the name of the recipient may not resolve against the offline Address Book when you are working offline, and you may receive the following message:
Check Names
Microsoft Outlook does not recognize "name of recipient"
Would you like to:
Create a new address for "name of recipient"
Change to...Show More Names

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the display name of the recipient is formatted is a different order. For example, the offline Address Book may contain Lastname, Firstname for the recipient name order, and if you type the recipient name as Firstname Lastname, it does not resolve.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to work around this problem:
  • Type the name in the same order as it is displayed in the Global Address List (GAL) or the offline Address Book.
  • Click the Show More Names button to select the recipient.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
