WMI .mof Files Do Not Compile When Include Directives Use Relative Paths (296706)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation 1.5, when used with:
    • the operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000

This article was previously published under Q296706

SYMPTOMS

A Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) .mof file may fail to successfully compile when it has an #include directive with a relative path specified. This issue affects .mof files that are compiled manually with the Mofcomp tool (Mofcomp.exe), and .mof files that are compiled automatically as part of the WMI automatic recovery process.

CAUSE

The .mof compiler dynamic link library (Mofd.dll) does not properly handle relative paths. When an #include directive with a relative path is encountered, the compiler uses the process current folder setting instead of the path of the parent .mof to arrive at the included file's absolute path.
