FIX: Dimension Editor Displays Error Message While Setting Default Member (296652)

SYMPTOMS

When you click the ellipsis (..) in the Advanced Property dialog box of a default member in a dimension in the Dimension Editor, instead of displaying the dimension tree, the following error message displays:
Unable to browse the dimension 'DimensionName'
"Object variable or With block variable not set"
This problem only appears on dimensions that belong to a processed cube.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (the Analysis Services Components - Sql2kasp1.exe). For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services version 8.0. This problem was first corrected in the Analysis Services Components of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.

Step to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Process the sales cube in the Foodmart 2000 database.
  2. Edit the customer dimension.
  3. In the Dimension Editor, click the Data tab.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. In the Advanced Properties dialog box, click the ellipsis button in the Default Member property.
