OFFXPDEV: Uninstalling Microsoft Office 2000 Developer Removes the Components Menu Item (296567)

SYMPTOMS

The Components menu item is missing from the Insert menu in the Visual Basic Editor, even though Microsoft Office XP Developer is installed.

CAUSE

You uninstalled Microsoft Office 2000 Developer after you installed Microsoft Office XP Developer. Uninstalling Microsoft Office 2000 Developer removes the Components menu item.

RESOLUTION

When you uninstall Microsoft Office 2000 Developer, only the Components menu item is removed. You can still use the CTRL+T shortcut key combination to open the Components dialog box.

To reinsert the Components menu item, you must reinstall Office XP Developer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. On a computer that has Microsoft Office 2000 Developer installed, install Microsoft Office XP Developer.
  2. Uninstall Microsoft Office 2000 Developer.
  3. Open a Microsoft Access 2002 database, and then press ALT+F11 to open the Visual Basic Editor.
  4. Click the Insert menu.
Note that the Components menu item is missing.
