  • When you are prompted to enter a setup type, click one of the following options:
    • Typical: This setup type is suitable for up to 10 clients. The database can be larger than 2 gigabytes (GB). Security roles are available.
    • User Interface: This setup type installs only the Administrator console.
    • Custom: This setup type is suitable for a variety of clients. The database can be larger than 2 GB. Security roles are supported.
    • Express: This setup type is suitable for up to 10 clients. The database cannot be greater than 2 GB. This setup type permits you to use Microsoft Data Engine instead of Microsoft SQL Server.
  • When you specify the information for the DAS account, if you click to select the Use this account for Consolidator/Agent Manager, you can use the same account for both roles.
  • You must configure group membership before you start Setup. Setup does not automatically add the Service account to the Administrators group.
  • The default size of the MOM database is 500 MB and the default size of the MOM transaction log is 100 MB. In addition, when MOM creates the database, it does not configure the autogrow functionality.
  • Setup prompts you to start SQL Server Agent. SQL Server Agent must be running for Setup to be completed.
  • The Agent Manager/Consolidator runs as a Windows service. You are prompted to choose one of the following options:
    • Automatically start the service
    • Start the service after Setup completes
  • You must specify an initial configuration group name. For the configuration name, you may want to specify the scope of this installation, for example, Lab or HQ.
  • You must specify the location of the Web Console server files if you want them to reside in a location that is different from the default location.
  • You can automatically update the Browscap.ini during Setup.
  • If you want to use the notification features of MOM, specify the Exchange Server computer and mailbox names for e-mail notification.
  • You are prompted to choose the level of event monitoring that MOM performs. MOM only monitors those events that match defined rules by default. If you change the default value, the amount of data that MOM monitors may significantly increase.
  • Choose the management packs that you want to install. All management packs that are included with MOM are installed by default.
  • When you are prompted, allow MOM to restart any services that are listed.
  • If possible, specify different physical drives for database and log files.
  • The ActiveKnowledge Module installations may take several minutes. This behavior is expected.
After you have completed the installation, it may take several minutes to begin processing events. In that time, you can start the post-installation checklist
