SYMPTOMS
When you start the Small Business Server (SBS) 2000 Personal or Administrator console and click About under Helpful Links, the number of licenses may be displayed incorrectly. Under certain circumstances, the License value may be displayed as:
Licenses: 2000
Licenses: SBS
Licenses: Unknown
Additional items in the About dialog box may also be displayed incorrectly, including the BackOffice Small Business Server logo, which may be represented as a red X.
These symptoms may also occur on a BackOffice 2000-based server when you open the About dialog box in the BackOffice Server Management console.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the RegisteredOrganization or RegisteredOwner registry value contains an ampersand (&).
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this problem, remove or replace the ampersand in the registry values that are listed earlier in this article:
- On the server, click Start, and then click Run.
- Type regedt32, and then click OK.
- In Registry Editor, locate and click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\BackOffice - If the RegisteredOwner or RegisteredOrganization value contains an ampersand, edit the value and remove the ampersand, or replace it with and.
- Click OK to apply the changes and quit Registry Editor.
- Start the SBS 2000 Personal or Administrator console, and then click About under Helpful Links to verify that the information is displayed correctly.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
