Windows Media Player 7.0 Does Not Play Audio CD (296500)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Media Player 7
This article was previously published under Q296500 SYMPTOMS
When you try to play an audio CD with Microsoft Windows Media Player 7.0 on a Microsoft Windows 2000 computer, you may be unable to do so. Also, the Drwtsn32.log file may contain the following error message:
Dr Watson Event 4097 Description: Wmplayer Exception C00000FD at 77F82DD7
CAUSE
This problem occurs if the Windows Media Player 7.0 database file Wmplibrary*.db is set to read only for the user that attempts to play the audio CD. This problem can only occur when the Windows Media Player library database is on an NTFS file system (NTFS) partition.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, give all users write access to the file.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
Windows Media Player 7 uses the file Wmplibrary*.db to store each user's CD audio play list. If the Read Only attribute is set on this file, Windows Media Player cannot write to this file. Also with the Read Only attribute on this file, the user's play list is not automatically updated, and the error is recorded in a Drwtsn32.log file.
