SBS 2000 Setup Hangs During the Monitoring Setup Portion of the Installation (296448)

This article was previously published under Q296448 SYMPTOMS While you are installing Small Business Server (SBS) 2000,
Setup might stop responding (hang). This problem occurs specifically while the
Small Business Server component is being installed. The progress bar stops at
between 50 percent and 100 percent complete during the Monitoring Setup portion
of the installation. When this problem occurs, the last entry in the
System drive:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\Monsetup.log file is similar to:
Start Disk Performance counters:
C:\WINNT\System32\DiskPerf.exe -Y (mysteps.cpp:603) CAUSE This issue is caused by a problem in Diskperf.exe that
causes the program to enter an infinite loop. RESOLUTIONA supported fix is now
available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that
is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing
this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if
you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you
wait for the next Microsoft Windows 2000 service pack that contains this
fix. To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product

To resolve this problem, follow these
steps:
- Start Windows Task Manager, click Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 Setup Wizard, and then click End Task.
- When you are prompted to end the program, click End Now.
- Install the hotfix that is mentioned in this
article.
- When you are prompted to restart the computer, click OK.
- Insert SBS 2000 CD-ROM 1, and then start Setup.
- Continue through the Setup Wizard. Make sure to click Install for the components that you want.
