Internet Explorer 6 Remains Installed After You Attempt to Remove It (296279)

When you attempt to remove Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, Setup appears to uninstall Internet Explorer 6 components and restore the earlier version of Internet Explorer. However, after you restart the computer, Internet Explorer 6 may still be installed.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:
- You attempt to remove Internet Explorer 6 from a Terminal Server-based computer.
-and- - Terminal Server is not in Install mode.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, place Terminal Server in Install mode from the command-line, and then uninstall Internet Explorer 6. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
- At the command prompt, type Change User /Install, and then press ENTER.
The following command-line message appears:
User session is ready to install applications.
- Type Exit, and then press ENTER.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click Change or Remove Programs in the upper-left corner of the Add/Remove Programs dialog box. Click Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 in the Currently installed programs list, and then click Change/Remove.
- Follow the steps to restore your earlier Internet Explorer configuration.
- After Windows restarts, place Terminal Server into Execute mode:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
- At the command prompt, type Change User /Execute.
The following message appears:
User session is ready to execute applications.
