ACC97: Error Message: The Dynamic Link Library Mso9.dll Could Not Be Located (296259)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Access 97

This article was previously published under Q296259

SYMPTOMS

If you remove Microsoft Office 2000 from your computer and then install Microsoft Access 97 or earlier, you may receive the following error message when you attempt to start Access:
The dynamic link library mso9.dll could not be located.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the Add/Remove Programs utility in Control Panel does not completely remove Access 2000. The Add/Remove Programs utility leaves the Msaccess.exe file on your hard disk, and this file is part of Microsoft Access 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Delete the folder containing Microsoft Office files (by default, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office).
  2. Reinstall the stand-alone version of Microsoft Office 97 or Access 97.
