You receive an "ActiveX component can't create object" error message when you use Switchboard Wizard or Combo Box Wizard in Access 2000 (296204)

304173. SYMPTOMS In Microsoft Access 2000, when you attempt to either
- create a switchboard using the Switchboard Wizard
- insert a combo box by using the Combo Box Wizard
you may receive the following error message:
ActiveX component can't create object
CAUSE This behavior occurs if the installed version of Microsoft
Data Access Components (MDAC) is not compatible with the current installation
of Access. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods. Method 1: Reinstall Access 2000 To reinstall this program, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- In the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, select the icon for the version of Microsoft Office
2000 that is installed on your computer (Premium, SR-1, Professional), and then
click Change.
- In the Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Repair Office.
- Under Reinstall or Repair Microsoft Office
2000, click Reinstall Office.
The installer reinstalls Office 2000, including Access
2000.
Method 2: Install the Latest Version of MDAC To install the latest version of MDAC, do one of the following:
- Install a released service pack.
- Run a Web-based operating system update package.
