What to install from the additional CDs that are included with Visual Studio 6.0 (Disks 2 and 3) (296182)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Visual Studio, Enterprise Edition 6.0
- Microsoft Visual Studio, Professional Edition 6.0
This article was previously published under Q296182 SUMMARY Microsoft Visual Studio Professional Edition and Enterprise
Edition include additional products to help you to develop Professional and
Enterprise programs. However, you may not be able to install some of these
products in your environment. To clarify what is included with these packages
and what can be installed, see the section of this article that applies to your
operating system.
- Disk 1 - Microsoft Visual Studio Product
- Disk 2 - BackOffice Server Components
- Disk 3 - Enterprise Tools (Enterprise Edition
only)
- Microsoft Visual J++
Install the Visual Studio 6.0 development languages, including
Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual InterDev, Visual FoxPro, and Visual J++ from
Disk 1. (Visual J++ is located on a separate disk.) This gives you full access
to each language to develop and deploy programs. For most
installations, you do not have to have the BackOffice Server Components (Disk
2) and Enterprise Tools (Disk 3 of the Enterprise Edition only). Install these
products only if you have a specific requirement. If you install
Visual Studio for academic purposes, install these extra components only if you
determine that you have to have them for the studies that you are doing.
In most commercial installations, you do not have to have these
extra components. back to the
topINSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS For best results, follow the installation order that we recommend
for your operating system. Warning Do not install individual items from Disk 2 or from Disk 3
directly. Install these items from Setup.exe on Disk 1 only. If you run
Setup.exe from Disk 2 or from Disk 3, you may experience incompatibility issues
with the operating system. Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows Millennium EditionImportant We recommend that you install all server programs on computers
that are running Windows NT. If you must set up servers on a computer that is
running Windows 95, the order of installation is important. Install the
components in the following order. Note The Installation Wizard presents these options in the correct
order.
- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack - Limited
You can install the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Option
Pack on a computer that is running one of these operating systems. However, it
is a limited installation. For more information, visit the following Microsoft
Developer Network (MSDN) Web site: The Option Pack installs Microsoft Personal Web Server for
Windows 95 instead of Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0. For more
information, visit the following MSDN Web sites: Note When you install Personal Web Server (PWS) on a computer that is
running Windows 95, the Installation Wizard may not resume correctly after the
computer restarts. To continue, start Setup.exe again from Disk 1 of your
Visual Studio 6.0 CD installation set. The Installation Wizard automatically
resumes the Setup process at the correct point. - Microsoft Data Access Components 2.0 (MDAC)
To
verify which version of MDAC is installed, run the Component Checker utility.
To download this utility, visit the following MSDN Web site: For more information, visit the following MSDN Web site: - Microsoft FrontPage 98 Server Extensions
We
recommend that you install the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack and MDAC
2.0 before you install the Server Extensions.
Note When the Installation Wizard starts other client or server setup
programs, the wizard is hidden until the component installation has completed.
When the wizard appears again, you can install another component.
However, when you install Microsoft FrontPage 98 Extensions on some computers
that are running Windows 95, the Installation Wizard may remain hidden for
several minutes after the FrontPage Setup process has completed. While the
wizard is hidden, you cannot start Setup.exe again. A second Installation
Wizard will not start when the program detects that an Installation Wizard is
already running. - Visual InterDev Server Components (This component requires
