FIX: Errors in Application Center Event Viewer About Analysis Services Performance Counter (296147)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Application Center 2000 on a server that has Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services, you may receive errors in the event viewer for Application Center every 10 seconds. The error messages that occur are:
Source: Perflib. Event: 1008 The Open Procedure for service "MSSQLServerOLAPService" in DLL "D:\Program Files\Microsoft Analysis Services\Bin\msmdctr80.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. Status code returned is data DWORD 0.

Source: MSSQLServerOLAPService. Event: 2002 The description for Event ID ( 2002 ) in Source ( MSSQLServerOLAPService ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: .

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (the Analysis Services Components - Sql2kasp1.exe). For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To exclude the error messages, so that they do not display in the Event View, follow these steps:
  1. In the manager for Application Center right-click Events in the tree, and then click Properties.
  2. In the Properties dialog box, there is an Exclude button. Click the Exclude button.
  3. Type Windows for the Application Type.
  4. Mark the severity as Error.
  5. Type Perfilib for the source name and 1008 for the error number.

After you complete the preceding steps, the error is ignored by the event view. Follow the same steps for the 2002 error.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services version 8.0. This problem was first corrected in the Analysis Services Components of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
