PRB: Search Returns Different Results If Very Large Result Set Is Limited (296097)

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Site Server Search may return unexpectedly different result sets if a very large amount of data is searched giving different scopes and the number of results is limited.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, do not limit the number of results that are returned.

If you need to limit the number of results, you must write a post sort process that takes the full result set and then returns the desired quantity to be displayed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Site Server 3.0.
