Using a Local Consolidator Account Allows the Setup Wizard to Run, but You Cannot Access the Database (296015)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q296015

SYMPTOMS

The Setup Wizard does not validate that the account you selected for the Consolidator has the necessary permissions to allow the Consolidator to function properly.

If you run the Operations Manager Setup Wizard and you mistakenly use a local account instead of a domain admin account for the Consolidator and Agent Manager account, the Operations Manager Setup Wizard accepts this input and you are able to complete the Setup Wizard.

However, when you create a Managed Computer Rule and attempt to scan managed computers, you may receive the following error message:
Unable to access DatabaseName
The error message does not state that Consolidator account does not have the necessary permissions, or how to correct the problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
